Inspiring Caring Assessment
Let's sit beside your learners and design together.

About Assidere:
Vision and Mission

"What if assessment were a caring practice?"
We envision a world where assessment is more than measurement—it's an act of care.
Rooted in the Latin meaning of "assidere," which means "to sit beside," we see assessment as an opportunity to support learners in ways that affirm their identity, build meaningful relationships, and inspire joy, accomplishment, and belonging.
Our Approach:
Assessment as Care
We believe in a transformative approach to assessment—one that centers care in every interaction, every question, and every insight. This means designing assessments that:

-
Affirm Identity: Helping each learner feel seen and valued.
-
Foster Belonging: Creating a space where students feel like they are part of a community that celebrates who they are.
-
Build Relationships: Encouraging connection, dialogue, and support between educators, students, and families.
By modeling these caring practices ourselves, our goal is to help educators create caring communities in their classrooms, where every student feels they are truly celebrated.

How We Do Our Work:
Co-Designing with Care

We believe in designing assessments with those they impact—not just for them. This means centering students in the co-design process to ensure their voices shape the learning experiences intended for them. Our co-design approach takes two forms:
-
Including Students as Designers: Whenever possible, we bring students into the design process, valuing their lived experiences and insights to craft assessments that truly reflect their needs and aspirations.
-
Student-Perspective Taking: When direct student involvement isn’t feasible, we engage deeply in perspective-taking, especially focusing on students who may often feel left out or marginalized. This helps ensure our designs are inclusive, identity-affirming, and responsive to all learners
We ground our work in empathetic listening—truly hearing and understanding the experiences of students, educators, and communities.

We use an asset-based approach, viewing each learner and educator for their strengths, talents, and contributions. We honor the expertise of everyone we work with, leveraging diverse perspectives to create assessments that are meaningful, caring, and impactful. By incorporating co-design and empathetic, strength-based practices,
we ensure our work is responsive, collaborative, and centered around the people it aims to serve.
